Fire Station 40 is located at the Hartsfield- Jackson Atlanta International Airport, in Atlanta, Georgia. This was a design led by the Fitzgerald Collaborative. This design was built to pursue a LEED certification of silver. With over 30,000 square feet this fire station will be the home to additional emergency vehicles, and the expansion of additional personnel. This new fire station will replace the already existing fire station.

Broadgate Tower

Broadgate Tower - Wikipedia

Broadgate Tower in London was designed by architect Adrian Smith. It is located in London’s main financial district. The east side of the building is the shorter side – only thirteen stories – and lies within a “viewing corridor” that limits the height of buildings. The particular viewing corridor is for St. Paul’s Cathedral. It is close to Liverpool Street station, which is a major hub of public transportation. It houses high-quality office spaces.

The building isn’t particularly groundbreaking or anything, but it is quite beautiful in my opinion.

Broadgate Tower was used to represent a Shanghai skyscraper in the James Bond movie Skyfall.

The architecture is very exquisite in how the scheme is apparent all around the building. The clear windows add a modern look, which makes it appealing to younger ages. This architectural piece is located in Bregenz, Austria. I really achieved this architecture, especially because it is different than most of Zumthor’s architecture pieces.

I found these condos to be positive. The condos have multiple levels and seem to bring in lots of natural sunlight. I enjoyed how the condos are facing a river with a nice view. I could see myself sitting outside one of these condos doing my homework.

Bamboo Hostels

This specific type of architecture by Anna Heringer is very interesting to look at. My favorite type of architecture is the kind that makes me stop and stare, and this one would definitely do that if I were to ever encounter it in person. The abstract shape mixed with the perfectly placed bamboo shoots, plus the irregular sizes of each of the three buildings gives this structure almost a modern feel. These Hostels, located in Baoxi (a small village in china) utilize the same techniques as all of Heringer’s other architectural works, however this one specifically utilizes the bamboo shoots for a more aesthetic purpose. The building itself only consists of the thin cylindrical shape that you can faintly make out in the center of the structure. The bamboo though shoots are strategically placed around the outside to hide the mud walls and give the buildings as a whole a more pleasing look. The inspiration behind the shape and style of these buildings is the weaves of a basket and the curves of a ceramic vase, as well as a Chinese lampshade. The up close picture of the outer bamboo layer shows just how intricate this design is and how much work actually went into making it as perfect as it is. I think it would also be really cool to see this design be implemented in our own areas in the United States, but instead of bamboo, use metal. This design would definitely turn heads and gain a lot of attention.

Darfield Earthship

The season is changing and so are we!

This is another one of Michael Reynolds’ Earthship designs and it is located in Canada. It is sustainable and durable, and is perfect for a Canadian getaway when it is available for renting. This design is a bit different from Reynolds’ other designs with it being much less colorful and not having so much of the curved look. However, I like the dark and sleek look that matches with the mountains in the back. I also like homes that have plenty of windows and sunlight, and this house definitely has that.

Austin, Minnesota

Frank Lloyd Wright designed this home in the 1930’s in Austin, Minnesota. Wright was truly ahead of his time. This style of house is called “Usonian.” This style of architecture is characterized by long, cantilevered roofs and L-shaped roofs to fit in with a natural garden inside the house. This house has 100 windows and allows for a lot of natural light. The accents of red truly make this house standout.
