Devon Tower- Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Devon Energy Center - The Skyscraper Center

This building has a lot of meaning and inspiration for me. This is because being from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma there never really was any sort of “sky scrapper” they were all just deemed taller buildings. The sleek all-glass design of the building really brought a more modern look to the OKC skyline and I think for many residents this building was the beginning of something big to come to the city. Currently, this building towers over the rest as it can be seen from many miles away with nothing getting in its way. If you’re from Oklahoma city you understand the significance that this building holds if you are not, then you can still admire the beauty of the Devon tower as a whole.

The inside of this building carries the beauty from the outside to within. I guess you could say this building is beautiful inside and out. Standing at 52 stories tall it is something to withhold. When I first encountered this building as it was being constructed it was almost as if a look into the future was being presented to you first hand. This is in part because Oklahoma City is seen as more of a joke when it comes to city skyline but with this skyscraper coming into play it was a breath of fresh air and a means for bragging from the People of OKC.

Crowne Plaza – Tulsa, Ok – circa 2009

One of the most beautiful buildings to me is the old Crowne Plaza in Tulsa. I remember this building so vividly. The time I stayed their was the night of the head to head Billy Joel and Elton John tour. I remember pulling up to the hotel, with so much excitement, and seeing such a uniquely built building. I loved how vintage it looked. I could just hear the stories fumbling off the tall building.

Paris Las Vegas Hotel

When I was a competitive gymnast, I traveled all over the country and got to visit so many cool places. I will never forget going to the Paris hotel in Las Vegas and walking around with the feeling of being outdoors. Because I was only 7 years old when I visisted the hotel I did not appreciate the amount of effort that went into creating this outdoor atmosphere. The architecture was outstanding and you could not help but just stare at the ceiling and notice all the fine details put into the architecture. You almost forget that you are in the U.S. because of the realistic artwork.

From the realistic flooring to the ceiling that looks like the sky, the Paris Las Vegas Hotel is definitely a place I would love to visit again soon.

Bass Pro Pyramid

Bass Pro Pyramid is a place I went with my mom the other summer, on a road trip to visit relatives. On the inside it has a cool fake river with decorative fish and gators. And shopping, of course. It has its pillars textured to look like trees, which works well with the chains outdoors theme.
You can take an elevator to the clear top to eat at their restaurant (we didn’t) and get a great view of the Mississippi river. There’s a small platform you can barely see in the picture, which is clear on the bottom so you can look down from above. America doesn’t have many pyramids, so a giant lit up one is defiantly going to make people want to drop in and look at your store.

Headington Hall- Norman, Oklahoma (Post 4)

*This post was originally written by Abbey Crutchmer in the spring of 2017.

When I first saw Headington Hall when I toured OU, I audibly scoffed. It seemed a ridiculous place with a snotty- rich person air about it. I already knew I couldn’t afford to live there when I came to OU so I didn’t even bother to put it on my housing application preference list. The building is beautiful of course, but I didn’t understand why it needed to be so ornate and special in contrast to the other on-campus living options, which, if we’re being honest, are less than stellar sights. To me, and others that I have spoken to, it seemed exclusive and unfair.

However, my opinion has slightly changed in the two and a half years I’ve been here. I actually work at Headington now and I’ve met some of my closest friends there. If I could go back to freshman year I still wouldn’t want to actually live here, but I am thankful that I have had the opportunity to work here and get to know others who live and work here as well.

Millard House

At one point of Frank Wright career he began to start using a lot of ideas concerning patterned concrete block. This idea was implied in the project Millard House. He changed the general perception of concrete blocks to be ugly and not beautiful. The price of this house rocketed sky high reaching almost $8,000,000.

Wright used 2 different styes in this project, the organic architecture and textile block house. The organic architecture can be seen where he infused the spirit of nature surrounding the house. The house is surrounded  with plants, trees and there’s a pond located somewhere near the entrance of the house.aaaa
