Tom Love Innovation Hub

Interior of the Tom Love Innovation Hub in Norman, OK

To me, the Tom Love Innovation Hub represents hard work. I spent many nights here studying hard for tests, working on projects, and editing essays. The environment inside was very comfortable and energizing. It’s easy to get burnt out studying in the library or at home, but the Innovation Hub was like a breath of fresh air. Without this building I wouldn’t have had the same inspiration to study hard and succeed in school.

Minute Maid Park

Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX

Minute Maid Park fills me with memories of my hometown. As child, my grandparents would take me here to watch Astros games. I remember playing games at the Minute Maid Squeeze Play and eating ice cream out of little plastic baseball helmet. I remember watching my favorite player, Jeff Bagwell, hit a walk off home run. Most recently, I remember watching the Astros win a world series game in 2017. I have so many memories in this stadium and it will always be an important building to me.

BOK Tower

BOK Tower in Tulsa, OK

To me, the BOK center represents new beginnings. It was the location of my first internship. That internship was my first glance at my future. It provided me the opportunity to experience working in a corporate office. It also brought me to the city of Tulsa, which I will soon make my home. This building holds a special place in my heart will always remind me of that experience.

Barangaroo South Public Domain- GRANT ASSOCIATES

Barangaroo South Public Domain is located in Sydney, Australia and will attract thousands of people a day where enjoyment is found at the waterfront and more. This domain supports Barangaroo’s Indigenous and industrial history and has turned it into an urban masterpiece. I just love how simple yet complex the architecture is and I’m intrigued at the circular realm that allows visitors to sit altogether and enjoy the peaceful waters. The nighttime photos are my favorite as you can the skyscrapers and its nightlights nearby just extending the domain’s beauty. Grant Associates has outdone themselves again with this mixed-use waterfront development as they have given the city of Sydney a memorable identity by the time they finish in 2021.

Sentosa-Brani Master Plan- GRANT ASSOCIATES, WILKINSON EYRE

The design team of Grant Associates and Wilkinson Eyre are once again planning a new project in Singapore and to reinvent the islands of Sentosa and Palau Brani as their inspirations for the “island playground.” The project will be set within a biodiverse tropical landscape and will finish within the next 20 or 30 years as several phases roll out. The architectural landscape attraction will consist of forested ridges and coral reef sculptures as well as other natural features of the island and will include night-time entertainment and rejuvenated beaches. The project has set a goal to design in an authentic and environmentally sustainable ways. I believe it will be such an exciting development to Singapore as the country is now recognized for its beautiful architecture. The master plan already looks inviting and lively as it will bring people together to enjoy each other’s company as well as enjoy the stunning landscape and architecture that is offered. I can’t wait to see the finished work.

The OU Clock Tower (Part 2)

For a few years after 2014 I was not considered an OU student. I made poor decisions and failed one too many classes as a freshman and sophomore, and found myself with a suspension for poor academic scholarship. In the interim I enrolled at OCCC to try and correct my mistakes. I still lived nearby OU campus, and would sometimes walk to campus and wander it in the evenings to clear my head. Many times I would come back to the OU Clock Tower and be reminded of why I ever moved to Oklahoma in the first place. Despite the fact that I would never graduate within 4 years of starting classes, I still chose not to walk under the tower itself. I would save that for a special occasion, because I wasn’t going to give up on my goal despite my self-induced setback.

Gardens by the Bay – GRANT ASSOCIATES, WILKINSON EYRE

I’ve never seen anything like the works of Grant Associates and Wilkinson Eyre before. The architectural structures are stunning and mind-blowing that I can’t believe the project even exists and that beauty as this can be found. The tropical garden is located in the central region of Singapore and is filled with tree-like towers, shell-shaped greenhouses, and a 30-meter man-made waterfall. There are 18 large tree structures that are measured 50 meters and are studded with several types of plants and each one contains rainwater collection tanks and pumps. The inspiration comes from orchids and the design team’s masterplan is to form a rich fusion of nature, technology, and environmental management. The horticultural attraction has caught millions of both locals’ and international travelers’ attentions by presenting unusual plants in a dreamlike way through the talents of landscape architecture and architecture. I would love to visit this city of garden because I feel like it is a comforting and thrilling place to be.

Dell Webb Building

This building is where my father worked for 20 years at the Fresno County Planning Commission. It is the tallest building in Fresno. For me it always symbolized my dad was doing important work since he was in this giant buiding overlooking the City of Fresno.

My dad worked a regular schedule they called 9/80 which meant he had every other Friday off of work. I always felt like he had another life or family when he would talk about people he interacted with and projects he was working on. His main job was writing large documents reviewing different planning tasks. I never had any interest in this as a career but I always envied the camraderie and relationships he had at work.

You may have heard of the Developer that built this building. He was a Fresno native and went on to build casinos in Las Vegas and senior living communities near Phoenix and Sun City, Florida. Today it is part of the Pulte homes company. They use the Dell Webb branding.

Jose maria gil adobe

It is somewhat of a tragic story, but my grandmother died when I was very young. Her mother, my great grandmother, also died fairly young. My mother was able spend a lot of time with her grandmother before she died and she told her stories about growing up in Jolon, California on a cattle ranch. The historical marker calls it the Jose Maria Gil Adobe.

There was 260 acres of prisitine farm land in the Santa Lucia Mountains. He was born in Madrid Spain December 14, 1821. His father was from Scotland and went to Spain to be married. Hi parents ended up moving to America and Settling in Herongariquero, Mexico. At the age of 21 he moved to California to find gold. He was fairly successful and was able to settle at this adobe.

He had such a large family. There were 16 children. Some were still living when I was alive up until his last child, my great aunt, passed away in her 90’s. I was able to have some connections to my ancestors and visit the adobe with my great aunt.

I have a few pictures of the adobe which isn’t spectacular. It has undergone some preservation efforts over the years to prevent deterioration, but nothing is really restored. It is is located on the Hunter Liggett Military Reserve which is goverment land. You need special permission to visit so I have only visited once.

My great great grandmother was a native California indian. I think that makes me 1/32 which isn’t much. Their tribe was put in the missions and eventually disappeared. There are some people trying to revitalize the tribe and have ceremonies which is interesting. I have included a few photos of the adobe and my ancestors.

Rockmagneten

Rockmagneten in Denmark is still in progress but it is absolutely awesome! The gold and the way it reflects reminds me of lights and how it looks outside a theater. It reminds me of dreams. To the right, it looks like speakers to me. I love that it reminds me of music and shows at the same time. It looks very experimental and I think that’s super cool.
