VIA Centro Plaza

The Centro Plaza is a transit facility in San Antonio that is more than a transit facility. Besides being a hub for increasing public transit, the plaza has lots of green space, an area for art exhibits, and preserve historic structures of the land. The idea in mind of this project was to enhance the surrounding areas for future development.

I like how the plaza’s design plan is to enhance the surrounding area because I think a project or system can be more valuable if it is complementary to its surroundings. Also, I think it will be essential to assess this transit hub as the need for better transit hubs seems to be becoming more common.

Stanford University Medical Center

The purpose of the Stanford University Medical Center design is to be a reliable and adaptable medical and research center for the next 100 years. This hospital is the holy grail of what future hospitals will gain influence. The hospital has lots of green space on its roof designed to help patients or workers get some fresh air or relax.

I like how the hospital includes turns the roofs into extra space for people to be outside. Instead of just a flat roof where there is no interest in going, there are things to make the place feel more lively. I also like how to build is designed to be adaptable and can withstand unpredictable things like a 500-year earthquake. I think buildings where complete destruction isn’t necessary to create something new, make it more valuable.

District Wharf

District Wharf is a project under development by Perkins Eastman to be a waterfront neighborhood consisting of many businesses, residential areas, and public parks. The size of this project is 1 mile on the shore of the Washington Chanel. The District of Columbia implemented the project to turn an unused, neglected piece of land into a community.

I like the project’s design to turn a piece of land that was once useless into a sustainable area. It will be interesting to see how much this type of project grows in DC and elsewhere where there are unproductive lands. I think architecting a land to become more community like and serve multiple purposes will become more prevalent in the future.

City Tech

The purpose of City Tech is to provide education to the public of New York City and serve students and any citizen. The building houses a theatre, a gym, and a community center for the students. The inspiration of the building included providing an inclusive and collaborating experience to the people that use it.

I like how Perkins Eastman designed this building to fit the needs of many uses, such as multiple school subjects and public service with gyms and theatres. With all the functions, the building sounds very inclusive, and I imagine students and the public could plan much of their day being at this building. If a building can satisfy its users for multiple uses, I think it makes it more special.

Memphis Pyramid

The Memphis Pyramid in Memphis is a really cool building I like to see when driving through. The pyramid gives me an image of what the great pyramid might look like. The pyramid’s interior is also very cool. Inside is a bass pro shop and serves as a place for restaurants and a hotel. I liked the building too because it reminds me of vacations where we would stop in Memphis wherever we were going.

Space Needle

The Space Needle in Seattle is a neat building that provides excellent scenery. Riding up the elevator feels like a roller coaster, and then once your up, it’s like being in a space ship. The view the top provides is incredible. The city, the bay, and the mountains are all visible from the top, making you see everything the city has to offer. Whenever I think of Seattle, the Space Needle is the first thing that comes to my mind.

Heinz Field

default

My favorite stadium is the big ketchup bottle, aka Heinz Field, because of the scenery and the purpose it serves. My favorite NFL team plays here, and there’s no other place I’d rather be to cheer them on. My favorite experience there was watching the Steelers win miraculously against the Ravens a few years back. Seeing how all the fans cheered, waving their towels was a work of art. The word immaculate is common in Pittsburgh, and that’s how I’ll always describe Heinz Field. The stadium also opens up to the river and downtown, which gives a fantastic look at the city.

Cityplex Towers

One of the buildings that I always had positive encounters with was the CityPlex towers in Tulsa. These 3 towers are on the ORU campus and connect with a base, and it kind of looks like it is in a random place. Much of the area around the towers are suburbs or small shopping centers. Growing up, this was a building I pasted multiple times a week.

The similarity in the structures around the CityPlex towers gave the feeling that all the buildings were connected somehow. The gold on this building could be what makes this building unique to me. The shine it showed when it reflected the sunlight made it unnoticeable. I haven’t seen many buildings like this, at least in Oklahoma near home, where it drastically stands out relative to its environment. Overall, this building is one of my favorites because it is a neat building that I would often be around.
