Walt Disney World Dolphin and Swan Hotels- Michael Graves

Located in Orlando Florida, Michael Graves designed 2 massive hotels which in total equal around 2 million square feet. When you first look at the hotels you cannot help but notice the unique geometrical shapes that make up the hotels along with the bright colors and animal statues. This hotel is similar to a lot of Graves other work in that lots of different geometrical shapes were used to make up the hotel. Graves and his team wanted to create a resort in Orlando that stood out from all the other hotels and resorts in this popular tourist city.

The inside of the hotel is just as eye-catching as the outside with high ceilings and lots of unique shapes and colors. This style of hotel was out of the ordinary for Orlando and the work of Michael Graves has been appreciated ever since the completion of these hotels.

SNyderman House by Michael Graves

This show-stopping house in Fort Wayne, Indiana was built by architect Michael Graves for a couple in search of an avant-garde house to reside in. The house, like most of Graves other works feature multiple different shapes to form one cohesive design. While the exterior was unique and eye-catching, the interior and maintenance around the house seemed to drive the couple out. This architecture is something that you do not see very much anymore and houses nowadays follow what is trending rather than what is unique.

Seaplane Center and Yacht Terminal- Sanya, China

Famous architect, Michael Graves alongside many other architects designed a huge center for yachts and seaplanes to dock. Not only is it for yachts and seaplanes but it also has an auditorium, shops, night clubs and a lounge for guests. Surrounded by pristine blue water it it a huge tourist attraction. With such a unique architectural layout and design it is somewhere I would personally love to visit.

Giant Eyeball- Dallas, TX

I remember very vividly driving through downtown Dallas and looking to right and seeing a giant eyeball just in between buildings. This sculpture was created by Tony Tasset. When I first saw it I was very confused because downtown Dallas is filled with tall office buildings and right in the middle of it lays this giant eyeball. Anytime you drive past the eyeball, you are sure to see lots of people taking selfies in front of it because that is pretty much all it is because you cannot go inside of it. But now anytime I go into the city I always have to drive by the giant eyeball purely because it is so unique and adds a bit of creativity and fun into the city.

Lüsslingen, switzerland church

This church means a lot to me because both of my parents were born in Switzerland and this church is right down the street from my grandma’s house. Every time I go to Switzerland and I see this church I get so excited because I know I am near my grandma’s house and it is also the centerpiece to the very small town of Lüsslingen. My mom was baptized here along with both of my siblings and myself. This church is very old and looks rustic and is quite small but it will always have a special place in my heart and brings back so many happy memories when I see it.

denver public library – michael graves

After doing some research on Michael Graves I found one of his projects which was the Denver Public Library. I did not really think much of it since it is a library but after looking up a picture I was absolutely shocked that it was a library. When I first saw it, it looked more like a colorful office building than a library. What I love about this building is the use of so many different shapes to form one cohesive and unique building. The use of squares, rectangles, ovals, circles, and triangles may seem like too many different shapes going on but Graves turned into such an appealing addition to the city of Denver.

The central branch of the Denver Public Library

The interior of the library is just as unique as the exterior with a large wooden central branch. As the exterior shows, this library is a massive 540,000 square feet with lots of different rooms to enjoy. I would love to one day get to see this amazing piece of work with my own eyes.

Reunion tower, dallas tx

I first visited the iconic Reunion Tower in 2008 with my family for a birthday dinner. Anyone who lives around Dallas knows of the Reunion Tower and has seen it if they are driving into the city. It is 561 feet tall with 50 floors. I was so excited to visit it and go to the top floor where the restaurant was that we ate at. The top floor has a 360° view of the entire city and the floor rotates all the way around to ensure a great view no matter what table you are sitting at. The tower also has lights on the exterior that change accordingly to match holidays, sporting events, current events, etc.

When I was at the top floor eating I could hardly even focus on my food because the view was so incredible and I remember just thinking to myself, “How did someone build this?” I still have yet to see a piece of work so unique and eye catching as the Reunion Tower!

Paris Las Vegas Hotel

When I was a competitive gymnast, I traveled all over the country and got to visit so many cool places. I will never forget going to the Paris hotel in Las Vegas and walking around with the feeling of being outdoors. Because I was only 7 years old when I visisted the hotel I did not appreciate the amount of effort that went into creating this outdoor atmosphere. The architecture was outstanding and you could not help but just stare at the ceiling and notice all the fine details put into the architecture. You almost forget that you are in the U.S. because of the realistic artwork.

From the realistic flooring to the ceiling that looks like the sky, the Paris Las Vegas Hotel is definitely a place I would love to visit again soon.
