This amazing building created and designed by Maya lin and one of her associates really encapsulates the beauty in which architecture has developed into. The modern yet bulky style of this building plus the artwork presented to the public on the outside walls of the buildings cause for it to really catch the eye of a passing pedestrian. This building can very much be one of my favorites that I have encountered while writing these blogs in this class. Maya Lin is a true genius and her creations will not go down without the right amount of appreciation being granted to her work.

museum of Chinese in America – Maya lin
This building was introduced and created by Maya Lin in the year 1980. It incorporates and introduces Americans to the life and culture of the Chinese people. As some American people are naive to the fact that things such as this museum I believe that the introduction and creation of such a magnificent place are what is needed for the American culture to better diversify and develop into what it should be.
Hohenzollern Castle – bisingen, germany
This castle located in Germany is just one of the many castles that are located in a beautiful country. Like many people in the German countryside, this castle is “wunderschon” or wonderful. Being in a relationship with someone who is from Germany and getting an “inn” on the culture that they come from. The language and the culture and the architecture in Germany is one that is very intriguing and beautiful. This castle alone really emulates what it the German people as a whole represent with its glory. I believe that a castle is the most emasculate and astounding architecture that there is to date. although there will be other opinions that disagree I believe that to create something of this magnitude takes a skill that it is uncanny to any other.
Civil rights memorial – Maya lin
This beautiful and profound memorial is one that has gone down in history as one of the most important ones of all time. To remember the sacrifice and scrutiny that the people of the civil rights movement went through is a sacrifice like no other. This creation from architect Maya Lin opened in the year 1989 in Montogomery, Alabama; helps us a day in history where 41 people and countless others helped change the way people of color in America were treated. Although we still see these despicable problems today, it is always good to revisit these historic monuments and know that with great sacrifice comes great rewards.
The INdependent – Austin, Texas
This building in Austin, Texas sits 58 stories tall and is the tallest building across the whole city skyline. As some consider it and what it may also be referred to as the “Jenga Tower” can be noticed from miles away. This building to me encapsulates a certain kind of fun and also a very distinct design all in one. If you are ever in the area of Downtown Austin this building is one to behold and catch the eye of anyone at any age. Although very different and unique this building is one I could not ever miss and better yet one that I will never forget.
Maya Lin – Vietnam veterans memorial
As a 21-year-old college student, Maya Lin designed this memorial which is still seen today as a spectacle among all the war memorials. This memorial is something that all of us have learned and seen before. I never knew who was the architect behind this beautiful design but to know that it was a 21-year-old makes it even that much more amazing. As a 21-year-old Yale college student Maya Lin designed this wall in remembrance rather than celebration. She was trying to incorporate the dark tolls that the Vietnam war had on its soldiers while also trying to create something elegant that brought attention to remembering these soldiers. In my eyes, she very much did that. This memorial will live on in history for many more years, the work of Maya Lin will not be forgotten especially in this instance.
Skirvin Hotel OKC
This hotel is a very historic landmark within Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Built-in the year 1911, It incorporates the rich history of OKC while also adding a bit of a mysterious and omniscient feel to the city it brings a scary story along with it. There is a story that says that the hotel is haunted by the original owner’s wife. This brings a very intriguing feel to staying there and on many occasions, it has been confirmed that this hotel actually is haunted. This story combined with the amazing architecture that makes it look dark and gloomy makes for a very interesting hotel that is and will be apart of the Oklahoma City tradition for many years in the future.
Devon Tower- Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
This building has a lot of meaning and inspiration for me. This is because being from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma there never really was any sort of “sky scrapper” they were all just deemed taller buildings. The sleek all-glass design of the building really brought a more modern look to the OKC skyline and I think for many residents this building was the beginning of something big to come to the city. Currently, this building towers over the rest as it can be seen from many miles away with nothing getting in its way. If you’re from Oklahoma city you understand the significance that this building holds if you are not, then you can still admire the beauty of the Devon tower as a whole.
The inside of this building carries the beauty from the outside to within. I guess you could say this building is beautiful inside and out. Standing at 52 stories tall it is something to withhold. When I first encountered this building as it was being constructed it was almost as if a look into the future was being presented to you first hand. This is in part because Oklahoma City is seen as more of a joke when it comes to city skyline but with this skyscraper coming into play it was a breath of fresh air and a means for bragging from the People of OKC.
