Michael Reynolds – Earthship

Michael Reynolds is an American architect from New Mexico. He is specialized in building sustainable living homes. Michael takes all human necessities into consideration when designing a building, which is, shelter, food, clean water, garbage management, sewage treatment, and energy. This mission that Michael has set out on is to provide the world with a pollution-free life alternative and with global warming increasing this mission is more critical now than ever before. The houses look very similar to a clay house but tend to be decorated with stones, jewels, and marbles. These structures are almost completely built out of natural material and assembled in a way to last for decades while still providing clients with the visually pleasing house.

Jeanne Gang – Vista tower

Jeanne Gang is a famous american architect and founder of the Studio Gang which has locations in Chicago, New York, and San Francisco. Her work is very diverse and very unique. The Vista Tower is a 1.9 million square foot, 101 story building located in Chicago and towers over the Chicago River providing the tenants with an amazing view. The design of the building causes it to almost appear like is is swaying back and forth due to the in even glass facade that was used. Designs like this show the real innovation that can be accomplished when engineers and architect both work together to create buildings that will forever be unique.

Peter Zumthor – Brother Claus Field Chapel

Peter Zumthor is a Swiss Architect that specializes in the minimalist design. Almost all his work is created with simple shapes and designs and has very little color and amenities but, the buildings seem to remain stunning. The Field Chapel was right down his ally with a minimalist approach. The buildings facade is consistent on all sides and takes the appearance of rock extruding out of the ground. On this inside, you get a rustic feeling with metal walls that spiral up into a tightening sunroof.

Alex high school

Alex High School is a project that is a small public school that is located in southern Oklahoma. I had the privilege of being apart of the project team that completed this project. This building is one of the very few buildings that have impacted me in a negative way. The project did not go as planned, had numerous delays, changes, and unforeseen issues. The buildings on the campus are very nice and aesthetically pleasing but, the number of headaches I was forced to go through to wrap these projects up caused me to hate them. At the same time it does give me a better appreciation for other buildings I enjoy spending time in because, it makes you realize how much struggle someone had to of gone through to create a nice and comfortable space for you to use.

Devon Tower

The Devon Tower is the tallest building in OKC and has a complete glass facade. As you drive by the building stands out almost like a massive crystal because of the way `light reflects off the glass. I have always admired this building but, I gained a larger interest in this building when I had the opportunity to study the construction process of high rise buildings. The things about these types of building that interest me more than anything is the foundations. When I discovered that these buildings have mat slabs that can be up to 7 feet deep in addition to the piers underneath. It was hard for me to wrap my mind around a building using 6,500 cubic yards in a time span of 18 hours.

Empire State building

The Empire State Building one of the most famous buildings in the entire world. This building has always been extremely interesting to me due to the insane speed the building was built in. The 102 story building was built in just one year and to this day no other building has every been constructed at this speed. It has positively impacted me because, it has grown my love for the concept of lean construction. I have spent several hours researching this building trying to understand why people have not been able to replicate the production levels of this building. It is my belief that increased safety and environmental regulations along with the increased complexity in electrical systems in modern buildings prevents contractors from matching this production level.

Chickasaw Nation Pharmacy

The Chickasaw Nation Pharmacy was the first complex building that I had the opportunity to see built from the ground up. I was apart of the project management team and was able to see the administrative work and coordination that went into a large building. The building was approximately 37,000 sqft and had a project budget of $18 million and the project duration was just over 20 months. This building impacted me in a positive way because, it have me a much greater appreciation for buildings in general. I had previously understood the way buildings were assembled in a conceptual way but had never seen the process in real life. The amount of labor and energy that goes into buildings of this nature was stunning to me.
