Caixa Galicia Towers

One lesser known yet sill incredible designs is the Caixa Galicia Towers in A Coruña, Galicia Spain. In 2007 Carme Pinos designed these towers as office space. This was in an early stage of her sustainable designs for office buildings yet sill worked really well. The open air environmental friendly approach is clear with these buildings. This architect has won many awards and has much recognition yet she still is able to amaze with new designs that prove to be better than her previous ones. The ideas she was able to build upon and create over time were incredible to research. Her website gives a great look inside how she designs her structures.

Footbridge and Landscaping Bridge in Petrer, Alicante, Spain

This is one of the lesser known designs by Carme Pinos yet well appreciated. I was built in Petrer, Alicante, Spain in 1991 making it one of her easiest works. I love the look of it and the shadow it cast on it’s path. I also love the fact that it is still being enjoyed over 30 years later and no one has felt the need to put something new there or change it. It has a path, an over head art design and benches built into it. The designs are displayed on Carme’s website giving even more insight on her though process in building this.

Gardunya Square

Plaza de la Gardunya de Barcelona, Carme Pinós

Located in Barcelona, Spain this is another beautiful design by Carme Pinos. Her style of work is clearly shown in this space with its sharp corners and square design. It is also incredibly self sufficient as was most of her modern designs. This was designed in 2014-2015 making it only 5 years old. In addition to being an urban space for outdoor activities it is also a housing block and a fine arts school located in the space. I believe that modernizing housing is very important for our future as is making it affordable.

Torre cube

Cube Tower - Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexique | Arsitektur

This is Torre Cube located in Guadalajara, Mexico. It was designed and built in 2005 by Architect Carme Pinos and her studio. Her designs mostly have some modernism to them and they usually look spectacular like this one. A well ventilated office and use of natural light makes this structure very self sufficient and environmentally friendly. I enjoy when designers include sustainability in their designs. The final cost of this project was 10 million dollars which I think is very reasonable for a structure of this size. This is one of my favorite designs by this architect.

PHILBROOK MUSEUM OF ART

Philbrook Museum of Art- Tulsa, OK | Architecture for Non Majors

There are so many different words I could use to describe the beauty of the Philbrook museum but the first one that came to mind as a kid was magical. It felt like I was in one the many Disney stories that I loved to watch. The amazing art on the walls combined with the architecture of the building was something I had never experienced before. Being an 8 year old, you are easily impressed and that first impression created a lifelong bond with visiting this building. Now, whenever I have time or there is a new exhibit, I love going back to the Philbrook.

It does not stop inside, out back there is a giant garden filled with gorgeous plants and life. It is possible to get lost for hours admiring the beauty. I hope one day that my residence can somewhat resemble how well put together this place is. While I know it is a museum and attention to detail is important to them, I feel it can be replicated.

Denver international airport

Before I ever stepped foot into the Denver airport I knew of it’s legend. There are countless conspiracy theories about its purpose and its construction. I spent a couple days going down that rabbit hole when I was younger and got convinced of the myth. I learned that the airport had conspiracies dating to even before its construction.

Denver International Airport conspiracy theories: Art murals disappearing from terminal walls

Things like a demonic horse statue and the mural pictured above only add to the theories. The conspiracies are too loony and complex to even attempt to explain here but to sum it up the free masons and the illuminati apparently have a hand in everything we love. Now that I am older and have traveled through the airport numerous times I sort of laugh at my past self and my past beliefs.

Williams Center(BOK TOWER) Tulsa OK

In the 80’s the energy giant, Williams Corportation, set out to have one of the first sky scrapers in Tulsa, OK. Standing at 52 stories and over 660ft tall, it is was at one time the tallest building in Oklahoma. It was designed by famous architect Minoru Yamasaki, who also designed the infamous World Trade Center towers.

Growing up I had a unique relationship with this building because it looked so much like the World Trade center it frightened me, also because my grandmother worked there and I did not want anything bad to happen to her. I felt like I grew up with the building including in 2006 when it under went renovations like an ice skating rink, restaurants and a movie theater. Those additions made this building more than just a boring place that I knew from my childhood.

Union Staion, Denver CO

In 1881 Union Station was built in downtown Denver Colorado, nestled right near the rocky mountains. The station burned down in 1894 but was later rebuilt to its newer larger size in 1914. This building never caught my attention until it’s reopening after it’s renovation in the summer of 2014. The newly remolded station includes a 112 room hotel, many restaurants and stores.

The integral part of the station is the accessibility to Colorado’s many train services including Amtrak and their own centrally located state run transportation. I have visited Denver numerous times, even for extended stays and have only traveled on the train once. The experience of traveling on the train is not necessary to enjoy the beauty or amenities of the station. Many times I have made day trips out of going to the many options in the station.
