Taliesinin Spring green, wisconsin

This is yet another example of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture that fits in harmoniously with the nature surrounding it. This particular structure just looks like it belongs, nudged in between the green trees of Wisconsin. This was Wright’s home and architectural “lab” for 48 years. The wooden color on the exterior gives the estate a cozy and log cabin feel and fits nicely between the shrubbery.

Austin, Minnesota

Frank Lloyd Wright designed this home in the 1930’s in Austin, Minnesota. Wright was truly ahead of his time. This style of house is called “Usonian.” This style of architecture is characterized by long, cantilevered roofs and L-shaped roofs to fit in with a natural garden inside the house. This house has 100 windows and allows for a lot of natural light. The accents of red truly make this house standout.

Frank lloyd wright: Taliesin west

Taliesen West was Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and school. This building was erected in 1937 in Arizona. Wright would migrate west every winter from Wisconsin to Arizona. The structure’s rocks and wood is made from local sources and is referred to as “desert masonry.” The house blends in beautifully with nature and seems to be apart of the landscape, with its long, flat appendages. The structure has a lot of natural light and water flowing throughout the building. Today, the building is the headquarters of the Frank Lloyd Wright foundation.

Fallingwater: Frank Lloyed Wright

Frank Lloyd Wright was a visionary architect that has designed over 1,000 structures. Pictured above is his most famous work. Fallingwater is a home designed by Wright near Pittsburgh, PA . This building fits in with nature perfectly and exemplifies “the harmonious union of art and nature.” Fallingwater is now a public museum and is truly a work of art.

Alcatraz: San Francisco

Alcatraz Island in San Francisco was one of the most profound places and buildings I have visited. Being on the island and exploring the old prison was an eerie experience but one I will never forget. It was interesting learning about the history of the prison and little stories and facts about inmates, guards, and attempted escapes. The building itself is separated into a few parts and being inside the main prison area where the cells are was a creepy experience for me. It was well lit, but I couldn’t help thinking of all the past prisoners that were sanctioned to this island and all the things that went down on this chunk of land in the middle of the ocean. It truly is astounding how a maximum security prison was built on an island that can only be accessed by boat, surrounded by freezing cold water and threatening sea life. Alcatraz is definitely a must see if you are in the San Francisco area!

High Museum: Atlanta, GA

The High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia has had a positive impact on my life. I went on many field trips here from elementary school to high school and got to some incredible exhibits. As a child, I saw a cowboy exhibit which was one of my favorite field trips. In high school me and a select group of students went and got to see a Medieval exhibit which was fascinating. I have been to the Museum a number of times on my own with a few friends and have had some profound experiences exploring the multiple story building and all the different exhibits. As a child when I would go to the High Museum, our group leaders would always take us to eat t The Varsity for lunch, which is another reason why I associate The High with such a positive experience.

Phillips Arena: Atlanta, GA

Phillips Arena is located in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia and is the home of the Atlanta Hawks, Dream, and former home of the Atlanta Thrashers. As a kid, I visited this arena many times to watch the Hawks or the Thrashers and I have very fond memories of watching Hockey games pressed up against the glass or Joe Johnson hitting game winning three pointers. The arena is now named State Farm Arena but when I was a child, Phillips Arena was like a second home. I even was lucky enough to play a game on the court in High School.

The arches pictured above are very unique and impressive, as you can see they spell out “ATLANTA.” As a child, I always thought this was the coolest thing and would take pictures in front of these arches to send to my Grandma back home. Phillips arena holds a special place in my heart because of all the exciting games I have seen there and the memories of being with family and friends in between those walls.

Hotel Santa Fe

This is my favorite hotel I have ever stayed in. I was in Santa Fe, New Mexico attending a PBR Bull riding event that my cousin was putting on and I was lucky enough to be able to stay here. The style of the hotel was unique and unlike any place I’ve ever stayed before. Santa Fe, if you haven’t been, has ordinances in place that require buildings to maintain a certain style, similar to the one seen in the picture attached. This adobe style of architecture super unique and looks even better when the whole city is built like this. It doesn’t feel like you are in the U.S. The hotel was a conglomeration of individual mesa style cabins like the one in the picture with a “wild west” interior. If you ever are in Santa Fe I highly recommend staying at Hotel Santa Fe!
