I found this building to be very interesting. I really enjoy that multiple levels are being shown and the fact that there are plants and trees on each level. Each level seems like there are lots of natural sunlight coming into each room, which brings a positive energy to each level. I think this building has a very positive energy to it.

Brazil National Congress Building

This is the Brazilian National Congress building. Finished in 1970, the two different domes hold the space for the two separate bodies of congress in Brazil. The semi-sphere on the left is home to the Senate while the semi-sphere on the right houses the Chamber of the Deputies. Niemeyer’s use of curved lines are evident here as well is his use of the water to reflect the architecture of the building.

Casa de Musica

Home to the National Orchestra of Porto in Porto, Portugal, this structure has Rem Koolhaas written all over it in the ink of unparallel lines, subtly-textured and continuous patterns. The building is asymmetric, the seemingly cut off corners look to be different sizes, and the windows do not follow what a window normally looks like. The window of the entrance has one corner wrap around to the other side as the other three corners stay behind. The window on the left leans toward the ground. The window on top of the building is trapezoidal. You can see a cross-cut pattern subtly running across the surface of the buildings, but not parallel to any of its edges. I feel that this building is a great example of Rem Koolhaas’ imagination and creativity, breaking from right angles, parallel lines, and what windows should look like. So entertaining to look at!

The Viridian- MEltzer/Mandl

The Viridian was designed by Meltzer/Mandl Architects P.C.. It is located in Brooklyn, New York. This building was completed in 2010. It is 172,500 GSF and is rumored to have cost around 200 million dollar but was officially disclosed by the owner. This building was designed for 110 Green Street Development LLC. This building caught my eye because of the random balcony placements. They do not align with each other. I think it is so pretty.

Fallingwater: Frank Lloyed Wright

Frank Lloyd Wright was a visionary architect that has designed over 1,000 structures. Pictured above is his most famous work. Fallingwater is a home designed by Wright near Pittsburgh, PA . This building fits in with nature perfectly and exemplifies “the harmonious union of art and nature.” Fallingwater is now a public museum and is truly a work of art.

Seattle Central Library

This library designed by Rem Koolhaas is one of many examples of his taking a simple shape, like a cube, and twisting it, entertaining its viewers. Here, the center shows what may have been the starting concept, a cube. Flat sides, right angles around the building. But above and below the center, we see it break from the right angles, going outwards to meet the head and feet of the building. The foot of the building has a slanted line going from left to right, and the left and right sides are not a right angle to the ground. Behind the glass, the white diamond pattern is continuous, not conforming to the twisted lines that outline the building. Inside, the books rest in a continuous spiral shelving system.

The Pacific Design Center located in West Hollywood, California is home to 100 showrooms that show valuable furniture and appliances to customers who are willing to pay a premium price. What interests me about this place is the fact that it looks like it is built out of Legos. From unique shapes to vibrant colors, The Pacific Design Center has an appealing design. Elton John and his foundation actually hosts a post-Oscar awards party here, and it is one of the most well know. Cesar Pelli is the architect behind this design and the original Blue building was finished in 1975. Later the Green building was added in 1988, and finally, the Red building was added in 2013.

The Phoenix Earthship

This house is created by the architect Michael Reynolds who is known for his “Earthship” architecture which mixes sustainability with an earthy design. This green home features its own microclimate in the high mountain desert and is completely off the grid. I love the seclusion of this house and its ability to be rented out as two separate wings or the entire place, depending on your needs. The interior is very cozy and has a tropical jungle vibe to it that is extremely welcoming. The amount of light that comes into the structure is amazing due to all of the windows and is perfect for the little jungle inside.
