The Museum Of Modern Art (MoMA)

The Museum of Modern Art in New York City is another one of my favorite buildings. The MoMA is a place that I enjoy going to year after year as it brings up old memories, and creates new ones as well. My family and I have spent countless hours exploring the different galleries and exhibits. The MoMA is the first art museum my parents brought me to which is why it is so special to me. The building has a very clean and modern aesthetic that really lets the artwork be the center of attention. I can’t wait to go back again and create more memories.

Cotton Bowl Stadium

The Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas is one of my favorite stadiums I have ever been to. Every year since I can remember, I have made the trek down to Dallas for the annual OU/Tx game which is played there. The stadium was built in the 1930s and definitely shows its age. Although there have been many renovations over the years, there are still aspects that could be renovated. Regardless of the condition of the stadium, the feeling I get when entering is unlike any other. Weaving through the fairgrounds outside the stadium is always a journey, but when I find myself in the beer gardens of Gate G I know I’m in the right spot. When the players take the field, I can always feel goosebumps. The stadium is split 50/50 between OU and Texas fans. The Cotton Bowl and surrounding State Fair of Texas is always an electric environment that draws me back year after year.

Carnegie Hall

When I was a sophomore in high school, I had the opportunity to travel to New York City to march in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with my high school marching band. While we were there, I got to perform a concert in Carnegie Hall. I remember being both exhausted from our trip and extremely excited to play somewhere that few musicians ever get the chance to. Stepping into this concert hall is something that words can’t really describe, but I can easily say that I, along with the rest of my peers, were in awe. The inside of Carnegie Hall is gorgeous with vaulted ceilings, balconies, and rows upon rows of seats. I think about Carnegie often and hope to eventually go back to enjoy a concert from the audience point of view.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral

St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City is one of the most beautiful buildings I have had the pleasure of experiencing. My family and I are frequent travelers to New York to see family there and we are always drawn back to St. Patrick’s. The cathedral is incredibly detailed both inside and out. The first time we visited I was in awe of both the sheer size of the cathedral and the beauty of the neo-gothic architectural style. The twin spires soar into the skyline and are a welcomed disruption from the glass skyscrapers that surround it. The inside of St. Patrick’s has a warm and cozy feeling that radiates throughout. It has many different types of stained glass which is something I really enjoy.

My home

This is my house back in Maryland. I moved a lot growing up so we were constantly moving houses, but this one is the last one we moved to. We moved into this one my junior year in high school so I only lived there for about two years before I moved off for college. Although I only lived there for less than two years, there is still a sense of home when I come back during breaks. I feel security and comfort when I look at this house, especially when I have not been home for months. I got homesick only one time during college and that was during the fall of freshman year. It was around two months into the semester and this was the house I thought of when I thought of home. The architecture is pretty straight forward and nothing special about it. But it is how it makes me feel which is the important part. It is home.

Christ Church Cathedral

Christ Church Cathedral was founded and opened in 1893 in Downtown Houston. This was the church that my siblings and I were baptized in and the church that my parents were married in. Christ Church Cathedral is one of the oldest churches in the state of Texas and became the head of the diocese in 1949. Since I was a child, I have gone to church here almost every Sunday with my family so it has been a big part of my life.

The Palace on the Prairie

The Palace on the Prairie, or more commonly known as Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium, is one of my favorite places on campus. I’ve been an OU fan since the day I was born and my parents put me in an OU onesie. I’ve grown up going to OU Football games and every time I go into the stadium, it brings back so many memories. The large bowl-like stadium makes it so you can see every single person in the stands with one turn of the head. I think it’s a really special place to be in as a student to cheer on your school with your friends and family. Although this will be my last season as a student, I can guarantee I’ll be back for every home game in the future.

Rothenburg Rathaus

The Rathaus of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria, Germany stuck with me more than anywhere else during my time in Europe. Rothenburg is a medieval city that has kept its historical sites well preserved. The original city walls are still in place and can be walked to get a view of the beautiful German landscape. Throughout the city are a number of iconic scenes.

The Rathaus (German for town hall) sits at the center of the city. With various construction projects taking place throughout the centuries, it’s a mix of Gothic and Renaissance style architecture. The contrasting styles, scale, and outdoor forum make the Rathaus stand out from the surrounding buildings. It’s a clear landmark and can be found quickly from most anywhere in the city.

I’ve come back here a few times, and every time it has been enjoyable. The forum is often home to street vendors and large performances that you won’t find anywhere else. With its unique look and centralized location, the Rathaus has become the symbol of my favorite medieval city.

Adams Tower

Adams Tower is where I lived my freshman year at OU. While the building is older not very aesthetically pleasing on the outside, It holds many memories for me.

The first time in encountered this building, I was moving in to my dorm. I was underwhelmed by the look and small size of my dorm room. Feelings overwhelm and disgust came over me as I walked through the musty hallways of the building. This building to me means new beginnings in the midst of history and tradition.

Boston Avenue United Methodist Church

By: Blayne Nichols

This my favorite piece of architecture close to home. The church is located in Tulsa, OK. In Tulsa, I feel like this building is overlooked because there are more examples of modern architecture in the city, such as the BOK Center. As a little kid I first saw this building at night, I noticed it because the top has colorful lights. The reason I could see it was because we were stuck in stop and go traffic. The church is right by one of the highways that leads into the city. I could not count how many hours I spent looking at the Boston Avenue Methodist Church while stuck in stop and go traffic. For the longest time this building made me want to be an architect but after discovering my passion for working on vehicle and engines, this dream faded. But it is one of the reasons that I decided to take this class.
