Ever since I got to OU I thought Price was one of the prettiest buildings on campus. 3 years later I still stand by that. My emotions walking into price however change pretty drastically depending on the day. Price will always be a part of my college career and I wouldn’t of asked for anything different.
Clackamas Mall which is located in Oregon, has always been my favorite place to go growing up. If I wanted to hang out with a friend after class we would take the bus and meet up here. Anytime we wanted to shop or get something good to eat, we’d come here. There hasn’t been a year that I didn’t show up to the mall until I moved to Oklahoma. During Black Fridays the mall would light up and sometimes with different colors which enhances the look of the building and although the building might look simple, It will always be a reminder were I chipped my front tooth playing tag and will always remind me of home.
Visiting the Alamo was such an eye opening and humbling experience. The history behind the building and the countless lives that were lost within it brought a different weight while being there. I am always very interested in historical buildings, so this was a very moving experience.
This gym is where I grew up playing basketball all of middle school and high school. This gym means a lot to me because of the time I spent here. It would always make me feel happy here because I was surrounded by my friends and basketball. This gym is different from most gymes because of how the court is sunken down from the stands making it unique.
This last building is one that I thought was just a special part of the Norman campus area. The Chouse was formerly St. Thomas Moore Catholic church but is currently a house located on 717 W Boyd St. in Norman. The Chouse was renovated into a private living residence by I believe a Norman couple. I think they mainly host concerts/meetings there now so I am not sure if anyone lives there, but they do have a facebook page that details whats going on there currently. Overall I love the look of the Chouse and the small garden on it’s side. It definitely would be my first pick if I could choose anywhere to live in Norman, as it is such a cool concept and could offer some really unique floor plans.
My family has been attending this church since before I was even born, so I have had my entire life to really get all up in all the details and notice all the little things that the building has to offer. When you first drive up to the church, before even stepping out of your car, the first thing you will notice is the huge dome on the roof of the building. It is hard to see from the pictures I provided, but take my word for it, this dome is very large. It has always amazed me that this large dome is just able to sit there without us fearing it will collapse on top of us. Walking into the church, the first thing you will notice is that basically every window is completely made of stained glass. I was not able to get a picture of them, as the church has been closed since May due to COVID precautions, but during the day, when the light shines through them at just the right angles, it can be very pleasing to look at. And like the French cathedral in one of the videos we watched for our video reviews, each window tells a different story. As you walk further into the church, your eyes will be glued to the ceiling, which is completely covered in paintings of key stories from the Bible. There is not one inch of the ceiling not covered in some form of religious iconography, except for the beams which house the lighting. For those who have never experienced an Orthodox Church, it will definitely be a surprise seeing all the walls and ceiling covered in paintings. However, the more you look at it, the more beautiful it all seems. There is an overabundance of things to look at, and you could never get bored standing in that building. I grew up going to this church every Sunday. I have experienced many different life events in this building. I was baptized here, had my first communion, witnessed many weddings and funerals, served at the alter with the priest, made many friends, and so much more. This church is also only 5 minutes away from where my family lives, so we would never fail to drive by it at least once a day.
One of the most memorable experiences of my life was the eighth-grade trip to Washington D.C. I definitely won’t forget our first day when we went to the National Cathedral. Never before had I seen such elegant gothic architecture, but at the time I would’ve just said “wow, that church looks dope!” I was absolutely stunned by the array of colors on the stain-glass windows. Also, I distinctly recall how long the path was from the doorway to the alter; our tour guide said that the path was so long that it gave enough time for a bride to change her mind during a wedding. I also remember that the organ had pieces that ranged from the size of your pinky to about 30 feet tall. All these different components permanently imprinted the experience in my mind. I highly encourage, if you’re going to D.C., stop at the National Cathedral.
I only went into the Devon tower once in my life. As you approach the doors it is a very intimidating piece of architecture as high as you can see it’s all just glass. It’s got fountains outside of it and beautiful decorations inside of it. The reason I went to Devon was to take my girlfriend on a date at their restaurant the vast. The elevator right up oh like forever but once we got to the top it was one of the most amazing views I’ve ever seen. The Devon tower makes all of the rest of the buildings in downtown look so minuscule. It’s like a diamond in the rough.
This may seem ridiculous, but every time I see a chipotle I remember all the times my friends, and I went there after school on a Friday. It became a tradition after some of us got our license that we would pack each car, and go right to chipotle after our final period. We did that for two years, and have even done it after we got out of school just for the fun of it. It’s just one of those little things that turn out to be special in the long run. The weird part about it is that I didn’t like chipotle until we made it a thing to always go there. I knew if I didn’t go I would be missing out on a good time. I don’t know how the workers felt about it because we would sit there for over an hour, and probably weren’t the most quiet group in the building. I tried finding a picture of the specific chipotle in our town, but I couldn’t find it.
Bubba’s Fried Chicken is a restaurant in Dallas Texas. It’s no ordinary restaurant for me because it’s maybe a favorite restaurant in the world. Walking inside Bubba’s always puts a smile on my face because I not only love the food, but I also love the old school vibe it has going for it. From the architecture of the building and its old school sign to the inside cafeteria, décor makes bubba’s like no other. Bubba’s always makes you feel good when you walk inside because they welcome you with southern hospitality.
